Winter of 76-77 was bad, but 77-78 really sucked! I was a senior at Jesse Stuart HS, and we had to dig out the drifts 3 days in a row just to keep the doors clear to our home. Checked on neighbors, and such, but at least we had power. Share your stories. Got-R-Did.
I was in Guam building bombs during that. But I saw the pics. Even got a pic of a snow shark in the folk's front yard.
I was in 7th grade, loved the time off school. Man, that wind chill was brutal even for a 12 year old, it would just about do me in now.
We built the friggin HUGEST igloo in my friends backyard! I swear it lasted until sometime in March...I kid you not!
After the main roads were cleared, our Navy JROTC Senior Instructor (LtCmdr. Gordon F. Pine) from Jesse Stuart HS came and picked up a crew of about 8 students to aid in clearing walks and driveways in his neighborhood of Whispering Hills. Most of us were Smallbore Rifle Team members and Color Guard or Drill Team participants. We shoveled for 3 days to help the residents of that hilly community; it was populated by many Armed Services Retirees and they were far beyond the capabilities of self sufficiency to do that back breaking work. We asked nothing for our services to these Heros and their Families but did not refuse the hot cocoa and snacks they brought us. Cmdr. Pine took us to Burger Chef on Valley Station Rd near the Dixie Hwy for a hot meal after we stopped on the 3rd day. He paid out of his own pocket, something we did not find out until we graduated. We assumed it was from cash donated by the Veterans we aided. We all learned valuable lessons that week, many of which shaped our lives and life paths. Gordon Pine was giant among men; a Naval Aviator flying the Constelation aircraft in his career, as well as an astonishingly accomplished Pistol Champion for the Fleet. It feels like only yesterday for me! Got-R-Did.
i remember standing at the corner of 26th st and montgomery, and when cars stopped for the sign we would grab their bumpers and ride till they stopped and yelled at us lol. sometimes they did not mind sometimes they damn near killed us. there were six of us on one bumper he fish tailed down montgomery all the way to 29th man what a ride
That totally escaped my cognitive thought process. Still lots of secrets in our recent past. I do look forward to the declassification of the Kennedy assasination. Got-R-Did.
